An abdominal CT scan, or computed tomography scan, is an imaging test that uses X-rays to create pictures of the abdomen. It can help diagnose abdominal issues and monitor conditions over time. How it works: You lie on a table that slides into the CT scanner. The scanner's X-ray beam rotates around you, taking pictures of your abdomen from different angles. The pictures are sent to a computer that creates cross-sectional images of your abdomen. What it's used for: - To look for the cause of abdominal pain or swelling - To look for the cause of blood in the urine or abnormal blood test results - To monitor tumors and other conditions of the abdomen - To determine the stage of cancer - To follow progress of cancer
